- Nancy Louise (McCormick) Saunders (1921-1987): U.S. Army Nurse Corps nurse who served during World War II.
- Ora L. Strickland ( ): National nursing leader, educator, and scientist. Dr. Stickland is a former faculty member of UNC Greensboro. Throughout her early career in the 70s and 80s, she ignored discrimination from her colleagues to become an important figure in research and the nursing profession. She currently serves as Dean of Florida International University's Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
