Notable individuals from nursing history.
- Valorie Joyce Lamm Cooke ( ): Valorie L. Cooke graduated from high school in 1981 and wasn’t sure which career to pursue. She found her passion as a student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where she earned her bachelor of science in nursing degree. A few years later she went to East Carolina University for her Master's degree in nursing. She currently serves as the director of clinical education at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, and is responsible for staff, physician, student, community and patient education. Cooke also oversees the Diabetes Home Tele-monitoring program at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital which has seen much success, keeping patients with diabetes out of the hospital. She holds several certifications in basic cardiac life support and is certified in nursing professional development. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Association for Nursing Professional Development. In 2012 she was named one of North Carolina’s Nursing's Great 100 nurses. Although she doesn't work at the bedside anymore, Cooke feels that her work in nursing has a major impact in the healthcare field.
