North Carolina Nursing History

Judy Seamon, who had served on the Legislative Study Commission on Nursing which recommended the creation of such a center, was named the first chair of the Board of Directors on the North Carolina Center for Nursing.Ten years earlier, she was serving as Chair of the North Carolina Board of Nursing when the North Carolina Nurses Association passed legislation to significantly revise the Nursing Practice Act in 1981. Two years later, she became President of the North Carolina Nurses Association. She remains the only registered nurse in North Carolina who has served as the leader of all three entities – North Carolina Board of Nursing, North Carolina Nurses Association, and North Carolina Center for Nursing.
