The North Carolina Licensed Practical Nurses Association (NCLPNA) was formed in 1947 to represent the interests and needs of licensed practical nurses in North Carolina. Two years later, the National Federation of Licensed Practice Nurses (NFLPN) was organized, and NCLPNA became one of its state constituents.

Betty H. Hunt was the second LPN from North Carolina to be elected President of NFLPN and is the current Immediate Past President. Betty served twelve years on the North Carolina Board of Nursing and was Vice Chair in 1997. She also served three terms on the Nursing Practice and Education Committee of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

She is a member of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools, the International Commission on Health Care Professions Licensed Practical Nursing Standards Committee and on the Editorial Board of Advance for LPNs for the Carolinas and Georgia.
