The 1947 Nurse Practice Act authorized the educational requirements and practice role of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). These are the first 8 LPN programs to operate in North Carolina. Three former Diploma programs at Grace Hospital in Banner Elk, Tayloe Hospital in Washington and Wayne County Memorial Hospital converted to LPN programs prior to 1950. This data is taken from the 1950 report of the NC Committee to Study Nursing and Nursing Education.
