  • Lucy Ashby Sharp (1862-1912): Spanish-American War nurse.
  • Peggy Ann Wilson (1980s-1990s): Wilson was a Republican member of the N.C. House of Representatives (1989-1994) from Rockingham County. Trained as a nurse, Ms. Wilson was an insurance manager and past president of the Rockingham County Federation of Republican Women, who named her Woman of the Year in 1986. She moved to Alaska and was elected to Alaska state legislature in the 1990s.
